School Notes:
- Founded in 1885, Florida Southern has a superb liberal arts core, as well as outstanding pre-professional programs (including business, communications, pre-medical, pre-law, nursing, education, sciences, as well as others). The college is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and welcomes students from all faith backgrounds and cultures.
- FCS offers 38 undergraduate majors; more than 40 minors; four graduate programs in business administration, education, teaching, and nursing; and evening programs for working adults. The student-faculty ratio is 13 to 1, with an average class size of 20. Florida Southern is home to 1,800 full-time students from 40 states and 46 foreign countries; 96 graduate students; and 218 part-time students.
- The campus is located in Lakeland, Florida. Florida Southern is located on a 100-acre campus, with 60 structures including a recently renovated science building, modern auditorium that seats 1,800, student-recital auditorium that seats 200, 11 computer labs, communication building with computer labs and television studio, modern residence halls, state-of-the-art wellness center, world-class Olympic swimming pool, traditional dining hall, gymnasium, tennis courts, softball, soccer stadium venues, and intramural facilities for soccer, basketball, tennis, and a wide variety of other activities.
- Florida Southern College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelors and masters degrees. It is also accredited by the University Senate of the United Methodist Church and has a State of Florida approved program at the undergraduate level for the certification of teachers. The baccalaureate in nursing at Florida Southern College is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and the B.S. degree in athletic training is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
