School Notes:

  • Founded in 1926 by newspaper publisher and philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps, Scripps College is the women's college of The Claremont Colleges. It is frequently described as one of America's most beautiful college campuses. Designed by architect Gordon Kaufmann in 1926, the campus is now included in the National Register of Historic Places.
  • Scripps' scenic 37-acre campus is located at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains in Claremont, California. There are seventeen academic/administrative buildings, nine residence halls and one senior apartment building on campus. The Sally Tiernan Fieldhouse is the newest campus building, which encompasses exercise rooms, a 25-meter pool, and a soccer/lacrosse playing field. There are also several shared buildings for jointly sponsored programs of The Claremont Colleges including Keck Science Center, libraries, a medical service center, and a bookstore.
  • Courses of Study at Scripps includes Anthropology, Art, Art History, Asian Studies, Classics, Dance, Economics, English, French Studies, Gender and Women's Studies, Hispanic Studies, History, Italian, German, Languages and Literature, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Politics and International Relations, Psychology, Religion and Science.
