Founded by Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune in 1904, Bethune-Cookman College is an historically Black, United Methodist Church-related

School Notes:
- Bethune-Cookman College provides excellent facilities, instruction, current technology, and support services for liberal arts, career-oriented and continuing education programs. The College emphasizes teaching by continually adapting teaching techniques to meet student needs and by providing support programs for faculty development.
- Situated on what was once “Hell’s Hole,” the city’s garbage dump, in 1904, Mary Jane McLeod Bethune founded Bethune-Cookman College, which now sits on more than 70 acres of prime Daytona Beach, Florida land in an ideal location providing easy access to business centers, theaters, museums, beaches, bus and air terminals, and recreational facilities. The college library is the center of learning on the campus. The library was constructed in 1971 and now contains over 154,000 volumes. The library maintains an open-stack system on the first and second floors and the second floor also provides group study rooms, a computer lab, conference rooms and the special collections. The Library/Learning Resource Center thus serves as a major focus for improving learning, teaching, and research.
- The motto of the college “Enter to learn; depart to serve” has become the mantra of the approximately 13,000-plus alumni, who now live and serve their communities all over the world. There are six degree-granting academic schools: Business, Teacher Education, Arts and Humanities, Nursing, Social Sciences, Science, Engineering, and Mathematics, through which 37 majors are offered, and a non-degree granting school of General Studies.
- Bethune-Cookman College is accredited by the Commission on colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees.
